Good day! We are ready to show you our new firmware beta, for our brand line - Ugoos UT3/UM3. New 2.0.5 firmware beta for Ugoos UT3 and UM3, new features added, few bugs fixed. You can download beta version here.



Here is Changelog:

- Ugoos Settings: add root support on/off
- Add SPMC 13.4.0. Remove XBMC add some keylayouts
- Ugoos Settings: add "install location" in ugoos settings, enable app2sd: need more tests

How to flash unpacked firmware:
1. Inside: AndroidTool_Release_v2.3 - tool for reflashing, DriverAssitant - tool to install drivers and firmware parts (kernel, recovery, boot, etc..).
2. If it first time, you need to install drivers use DriverAssitant or manual when connecting device
3. Run AndroidTool_Release_v2.3/AndroidTool.exe
4. Find recovery button on device, press and hold it.
5. Connect device to PC via USB OTG port (UT3: single port on right side, UM3: left port), and power on device (for UT3, UM3 will start when you connect USB cable)
6. PC will found new device and install drivers (or you need install it manually), then you may release recovery button.
7. Press Run button in AndroidTool_Release_v2.3 and wait end of process.

IMPORTANT:
- Now it's BETA version, so, something may not work.
- By default data partition is 4gb. If you need choose another parameter file (second field in AndroidTool) from root folder.
- If you need update your device without full reflash, uncheck "parameter" and "misc". Partitions size will not de updated.
- In current beta version we use latest Rockchip libffmpeg.so. So, in some video files audio may not work. Please notify us about it.
- Feature "Preffered install location" in ugoos settings by default in "Let system decide" and system installing some apps on SDcard. Need more tests, maybe need set by default "internal"
- Fan: if your UT3 have internal fan it will be controlled automatically by temperature: now set 70C to fan on, 65 to fan off. In ugoos settings you may change fan mode.
- Root: by default Android not rooted. If you need it, install Root in ugoos settings: just su binary or binary with SuperSU app

Ugoos UM3 Firmware Update Guide

What you need
- firmware image file
- Host PC
- USB OTG Cable

Supported host OS 
- Windows XP （32/64bit)
- Windows 7 (32/64bit)
- Windows 8 (32/64bit)

The first thing you need to do is to download the archive with firmware. Inside arhive you find:
- BatchTool or Android Tool - tool for reflashing
- DriverAssitant - tool to install drivers and firmware image file
- Firmware image

Installing drivers 
Launch RK DriverAssitant and press on button “Install Driver”. During installation programm a couple of times will ask whether you want to install the driver. At the end installation you can see  window what driver is successfully installed.  

 

Connecting device to PC
Find recovery button on device, press and hold it.
Connect device to PC via USB by OTG.


Upgrading firmware with Android Tool
Run the Android Tool and click on the “Upgrade Firmware”.  If you did everything correctly and the driver is installed on your computer, you will see “Found One Loader Device“. Click on button “Firmware” and specify the path to the firmware file. You need waiting until the program downloading information about the firmware, then it will display some information on the screen.Now click the Upgrade button to the firmware of the device. At the end you will see a sign indicating a successful operation.

 

Upgrading firmware with Rockchip Batch Tool
Run the Rockchip Batch Tool and click on the “…” to choose file with firmware.  If you did everything correctly and the driver is installed on your computer, you will see green light on one of the  indicators. Now click the Upgrade button to the firmware of the device. At the end you will see a sign indicating a successful operation.​

We are glad to share with You the great news. For owners of Ugoos UT-3 devices became available a firmware image with Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn. Using this firmware significantly extends the capabilities of the user and allows you to turn your device from tv-box to the personal computer. Linux desktop using the lightweight XFCE graphical environment. 

To install Ubuntu we offer to you choose one of the installation options. The first option is install Ubuntu+Android - Dualboot, you will get two systems on your device and switch between them by reboot. 

The second option is to install Ubuntu as the main and only operating system. It should be noted that regardless of which of the two installation options you select, all your data that was on the device before the installation will be destroyed. The system comes pre-loaded with a basic set of programs that would significantly reduce the initial system setup. You can play multimedia content, and to use the documents located in your local network.

For video playback you can use mplayer. List of hot keys to manage the program you can found here. 

As common web browser we offer Mozilla Firefox. You can start working with documents and pdf files immediately after upgrading.  You will be able to expand the set of installed applications at any time, you can use the Ubuntu Software Center for this.

To reboot in Android you need to use the shortcut on the desktop.Also on the desktop you will see the shortcut to run the program, with which you will be able scale the image to adjust it to fit Your monitor. For reboot from Android in Linux use button "Switch system". You can find this button  in the shutdown menu.

Unfortunately, not everything is as great as it seems at first glance. GPU  manufacturer  does not provide driver for VPU and GPU for Linux. This problem is compensated by having a very powerful processor based on Cortex A17, which allows you to perform the most basic tasks without any inconvenience to the user.


For example play most FullHD video files using software decoding does not cause rk3288 difficulties. We will continue working on  this firmware, fix errors and adding new features.
